Lymphatic Drainage Massage For General Wellbeing

Who is it beneficial for?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM)is becoming a popular health-based treatment for those suffering with any issues related to the lymphatic system. For some, this may come in the form of but not limited to: excess swelling around their joints, sinus discomfort, frequent infections and skin disorders.

What Is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is a sub-system of the circulatory and immune systems. Its function is to remove excess fluid from body tissues and return it to the circulatory system.

The lymphatic system helps rid the body of toxins, waste, and unwanted materials, in addition to transporting lymph (a fluid containing white blood cells) throughout the body to help fight infection.

Regular Massage vs. Lymphatic Massage

Regular massages target the muscular system, releasing tension and calming the nervous system, whereas lymphatic drainage massages address the skin in order to improve the efficiency of the lymphatic system.

LDM involves long, rhythmic, wave-like strokes, towards the lymph nodes. Essentially, the skin is stretched to allow a greater flow of lymph fluid through the body. In addition, rhythmic strokes also stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, causing the client to relax.
Other benefits of massage include reducing the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness, decreasing swelling, muscular fatigue, weakness, and pain.
