Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage that concentrates on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. The purpose of this technique is to lengthen, relax and release tension patterns within the muscles. The therapist will use a combination of slow strokes and deep pressure techniques using their fingers, hands and forearms on areas of tension. This can be delivered as a whole body massage or can be tailored to specific areas of the body.
Who can benefit from deep tissue massage?
Individuals suffering from a wide range of ailments can benefit from deep tissue massage, including
- Pain and discomfort as a result of limited mobility
- Back pain
- Pain from repetitive strain injuries
- Pain from pulled muscles
- Pain resulting from stress and related tension.
What to expect during deep tissue massage
During the initial appointment and before treatment, our massage therapists will take the client’s history and discuss any current problems.
Deep tissue massage is applied directly through the skin, body oil is usually applied. Some clients may experience slight discomfort when the technique is applied in certain areas. However, this should subside after the session. Clients should avoid eating large meals or drinking alcohol before a session.
The therapist should be told if the client is pregnant, taking medications, has joint problems or skin allergies, or has a history of respiratory or heart problems.
If the pain is too much to bear, clients should tell their therapist without hesitation.
